Precious!

Driving home from a BBQ at my in-laws last night, Luke told me that he and Justin passed a splash park and people there were dancing. He said that he didn't want to go there because he didn't want to dance. I told him that was okay but one day he might actually want to go to a dance. He looked at me like I was crazy and I pressed that one day he might even want to ask a girl to dance. He then gave me the look of death but then it softened and he smiled. He said "I know, I will ask you!"

All you girls out there, watch out. He's mine.

Random thoughts by Luke and Liam

Last Friday, the older two boys were with me and I was on my way to drop them off at my parents house for a sleepover. My dad called our house and Luke answered the phone. Since all of the boys are starting to sound alike, especially when they answer the phone, my dad had a hard time figuring out who it was. This was their conversation:

Grandpa: "Hello! Who is this?"
Luke: (short pause): "I am my father's son."
Grandpa: (now realizing that this is most likely Luke he is talking to): "I am your dad's father in law. Can I talk to him?"

Then on Sunday Liam blurted out that it was "freezing hot" outside.

Oh, the little things they say!

Fact or fiction?

Luke is approaching the age of non-believing.

He has recently lost a few teeth and unfortunately the tooth fairy just hasn't been super diligent in delivering the money that Luke deserves. But finally, during the day yesterday, the tooth fairy dropped off some loot and left it under Luke's pillow. Luke was very excited but a couple hours later, we had this conversation.

Luke: "Mom, what does the tooth fairy look like?"
Me: "I don't know, I have never seen her. What do you think she looks like?"
Luke: "I think she is just a parent."
Me: "Oh? I don't think so, how else would she be able to be so sneaky and put money under your pillow?"
Luke: "A parent could just walk up the stairs when you aren't looking and sneak it under your pillow."
Me: "Well, I don't think so. But what do you think she looks like and then we could keep an eye out for her."
Luke: Well, she looks like you but with purple hair. She has purple shoes and white skin. She has a wand...(thinking)...that has a yellow shiny star on it with red things coming out of it and the stick is...um...gray. Oh, and she has a purple dress."

I think it is funny that even though he is not sure if she exists, he has sure thought about what she looks like!

P.S. Another funny thing that I don't want to forget is he calls shorts "short sleeved pants."

A day at the beach

Did you know there is a beach in Herriman?

Within walking distance of my house?

Neither did I until yesterday. It is actually a resevoir but they have put sand down along the ridge of it and it slopes down just like a real beach. It even smells like a beach, kindof. Justin and I went to check it out last night and today the boys and I decided to try it out. It was awesome.

I didn't bring my camera to capture the fun they were having, but I have the smiling faces, the sunkissed skin, the working together to build a volcano city--later renamed bumblebee city--, and the totally relaxing day captured in my mind. There is a shallow area that they stayed in all afternoon, it does have a deeper part but I told them no way without life jackets and another adult. Nick was not sure about staying in the shallow end at first, but he didn't seem to care once he was playing around in it. I just sat and lounged in the sun for a while and then enjoyed the shade of my umbrella with a diet coke.

I am soo happy there is something that resembles a beach because I love, love, love the beach. There really is nothing so relaxing and energizing at the same time as hanging out near the sand and water. Invigorating. Now I just have to drive up the street instead of all the way to the coast.

If anyone else suffers from beach withdrawl, come on up!
